Purpose of the role
Tantum AG is an FMA-licensed electronic money institution in Liechtenstein with EEA passporting rights under EMD2. We provide corporate operating accounts — multi-currency business accounts with dedicated IBANs, SEPA and SWIFT access — for companies across the European Economic Area, complemented by our TantumPay and TantumIdent solutions.
The Compliance Officer / Senior Compliance Officer ensures that Tantum AG acts at all times in accordance with applicable legal, regulatory and internal requirements. The position supports the Chief of Legal & Compliance in the implementation and continuous development of the Compliance Management System as well as in ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
The role holder makes a significant contribution to identifying, assessing and mitigating compliance risks at an early stage, implementing regulatory requirements, and fostering a sustainable compliance culture within Tantum AG.
Main tasks
- Development, implementation and continuous development of compliance policies, directives and processes to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Performance of regular compliance monitoring, internal compliance audits and Compliance Risk Assessments.
- Assessment of the effectiveness of existing compliance controls and development of appropriate improvement measures.
- Performance of KYC, KYB and Customer Due Diligence (CDD) checks for new and existing clients.
- Performance of client onboarding as well as periodic and event-driven client reviews.
- Performance of Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) for business relationships with elevated risk.
- Analysis of complex corporate and ownership structures as well as identification of ultimate beneficial owners (UBO).
- Performance of PEP, sanctions and adverse media screenings.
- Preparation and maintenance of client risk assessments.
- Detection, analysis and escalation of unusual or suspicious transactions and matters.
- Preparation, documentation and filing of suspicious activity reports (SAR/FIU reports), where required.
- Support for and monitoring of compliance with all AML/CFT requirements.
- Ongoing monitoring of regulatory developments, in particular with regard to SPG, SPV, FMA requirements, AML/CFT, PSD2/PSD3, MiCA, e-money regulation, GDPR and other relevant European requirements.
- Support in implementing new regulatory requirements within the organisation.
- Preparation of regulatory filings as well as support in responding to authority inquiries.
- Support during internal and external audits as well as regulatory examinations.
- Delivery of compliance, AML and KYC training for employees.
- Support for internal investigations relating to compliance breaches as well as development of appropriate corrective measures.
- Documentation of compliance processes, risks and remediation measures to ensure audit readiness.
- Close collaboration with Product, IT, Finance, Operations, HR and other departments to ensure regulatory compliance.
Additional tasks (Senior Compliance Officer)
In addition to the tasks listed above, the Senior Compliance Officer also undertakes:
- Independent handling of complex regulatory matters.
- Independent handling of complex KYC, EDD and financial crime cases.
- Technical support and guidance for compliance employees.
- Leading or actively contributing to strategic compliance and regulatory projects.
- Support for the Chief of Legal & Compliance during regulatory examinations, audits and investigations.
- Continuous development of the Compliance Management System as well as internal governance and control structures.
Required knowledge and skills
- Solid knowledge of the regulatory requirements applicable to FinTechs, payment institutions and e-money institutions.
- Very good knowledge of European financial market regulation.
- Experience with Liechtenstein financial market legislation is an advantage.
- Solid knowledge in the areas of AML/CFT, KYC, KYB, Customer Due Diligence (CDD) and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD).
- Practical experience with FIU reports and suspicious activity reports.
- Strong analytical skills as well as a high level of risk awareness.
- Ability to identify and assess regulatory risks and to derive appropriate measures.
- Very good skills in interpreting regulatory requirements.
- High level of responsibility, integrity and absolute confidentiality.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Confident presence when dealing with supervisory authorities and external auditors.
- Independent, structured and diligent way of working.
- Very good documentation and organisational skills.
Required professional experience
- At least 5 years of professional experience in a compliance function within a bank, a payment institution, an e-money institution, a FinTech company or a comparable regulated financial services company.
- Solid practical experience in the area of AML/CFT.
- Extensive experience in KYC/KYB onboarding as well as in Customer Due Diligence processes.
- Experience with periodic and event-driven customer reviews.
- Experience in the area of Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD).
- Practical experience in preparing and handling FIU reports and suspicious activity reports.
- Experience conducting compliance monitoring, internal audits and Compliance Risk Assessments.
- Experience with internal controls and remediation processes.
- Experience in developing and implementing compliance policies, processes and directives.
- Experience working with supervisory authorities and external auditors; experience with the Financial Market Authority Liechtenstein (FMA) is an advantage.
- Experience in an internationally active and heavily regulated company.
- Fluent German language skills (mandatory).
- Very good written and spoken English skills.
Collaboration
The role works closely with the Chief of Legal & Compliance, Executive Management, and the Product, IT, HR, Finance, Operations, Customer Support, Risk Management and Corporate Governance teams — and externally with the Financial Market Authority Liechtenstein (FMA), the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), internal and external auditors, and other national and international supervisory authorities.
